In reply to Bryan.

Bryan, you are incorrect. Fat cannot be converted into glycogen directly, but it can be indirectly broken down into glucose through gluconeogenesis under certain conditions. Not only is it stated in the definition of gluconeogenesis but it's also mentioned in this article: Can Fats Be Turned Into Glycogen for Muscle?

The article repeatedly says things like: "have 4oz to 6oz of protein per meal". There is no information in that sentence. 5oz of protein is 140 grams of protein, which is far more than you should have per meal. But if she means 5oz of protein foods, that is not information either. Steak? Protein bars? Tuna? 5oz of each results in widely different protein amounts. The article should have just used the phrase "grams of protein."

Gluconeogenesis does not increase with greater ingestion of protein when you are on a low carb diet according to Ben Bickman:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3fO5aTD6JU

In short, when someone is on a low carb diet, the amount of gluconeogensis is regulated by the body's need for glucose, and not by how much protein you eat. If someone is on a low carb diet and they eat a lot of protein, it will not raise their insulin levels.

I appreciated everything in this article, it was most helpful to me as I am finding myself eating about 20 g of carbohydrate a day but no longer in ketosis, and glucose blood test levels of over 100. But I would like to say in Dr. Akin‘s defense, that even his first book which got me started on low-carb diet in back in 1972, he referenced numerous studies including one with prisoners who is diets were extremely well controlled/monitored, where it showed definitively that low carbs was the weight to lose weight. It wasn’t all on anecdotes, nor just the few patients he had treated by then. He quoted several studies.
