Ingredients

  • 2 large onions thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoon butter or olive oil
  • 1 cup full-fat Greek yogurt
  • 2 oz keto mayo
  • 2 tablespoon cream cheese
  • 2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce or gluten-free soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Heat the butter or olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced onions to the skillet, add salt and cook them slowly, stirring occasionally, until they become caramelized and golden brown. This process can take around 30-40 minutes.
  • Remove the caramelized onions from the heat and let them cool.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, mayo, softened cream cheese, Worcestershire sauce (or gluten-free soy sauce), garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until smooth.
  • Reserve one tablespoon of the caramelized onions, add the rest to the yogurt and cream cheese mixture. Stir until the onions are evenly distributed throughout the dip.
  • Taste and adjust the seasonings if needed.
  • Transfer the dip to a serving bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld together.
  • Serve the keto caramelized onion dip with your favorite low-carb chips, vegetable sticks, or keto-friendly crackers.

Notes

  • Caramelizing onions takes time and patience, as they need to be cooked slowly over low heat to achieve the desired golden brown color and sweet flavor. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
  • If you prefer a dairy-free version, you can substitute the butter or cream cheese with a dairy-free alternative, such as coconut oil or dairy-free cream cheese.
  • Adjust the seasoning according to your taste preferences. You can add more garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce/soy sauce, or salt and pepper as desired.
  • The dip can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
