This cool and creamy tzatziki sauce is full of Mediterranean flavor and so easy to make! It's made with sour cream instead of yogurt for extra tang and fewer carbs.

Article Index
Have you ever had Greek cucumber yogurt sauce? It's a condiment that's traditionally made with yogurt, cucumbers, dill, garlic, and salt for a cool and refreshing taste.
But yogurt is a controversial ingredient in the low-carb community. While sweetened yogurt is technically the frowned-upon ingredient in the keto community, I prefer to make my tzatziki sauce with full fat sour cream instead.
However, plain unsweetened yogurt would work just as well in this recipe. Just be careful and pay attention to make sure it is low in carbs and sugar.
Just like the traditional sauce, my version is perfect for dipping fresh vegetables into, or to be drizzled on top of a gyro. Tzatziki sauce (sometimes misspelled as taziki sauce) goes great with grilled meats like chicken, beef, pork, and lamb. It’s a perfect sauce to add cool and tangy flavor!
And this sauce is so easy to make. You can be ready to serve it in less than 10 minutes!

How to make tzatziki with sour cream
The creamy low-carb sauce comes together in just a few simple steps:
- Without removing the skin, grate the cucumber using the small holes on your box grater.
- Squeeze as much moisture out of the grated cucumber as possible. You can use your hands or simply wrap the shredded cucumber in a paper towel.
- Mix the sour cream, grated cucumber, fresh dill, garlic powder, and fresh lemon juice together in a small bowl. Stir well to combine ingredients.
- Chill at least 2 hours, but if you are in a rush, you can use it immediately.

Enjoy immediately or cover and store in the refrigerator. The sauce will be even better after it’s had time to chill.
How to prepare the cucumber
Did you know that cucumbers are 95% water? That’s why it’s so refreshing to eat them raw.
But you don’t want all that liquid going into a keto tzatziki sauce because it will become too runny. The key to this recipe is to remove as much of the moisture from the grated cucumber as possible.
To do this, I recommend taking a handful of grated cucumber at a time and squeezing it between your palms over the sink. Set it on a paper towel until you’re ready to use.
Alternatively, you could add the grated cucumber to a fine mesh sieve and press with paper towels to squeeze out the liquid.
Finally, you could salt the cucumbers to draw out the water. Add the grated cucumber to a sieve over a bowl, toss with salt, then allow it to sit for about 15 minutes.
Once the time is up, press with paper towels or the back of a spatula to release even more water.
If you use the salting method, you may want to reduce the amount of salt you add to the recipe.

Serving Suggestions
I like using sour cream in this recipe to keep the tzatziki sauce low in carbs. That means it’s great to pair with other keto foods.
An easy option is to serve it as a dipping sauce for freshly chopped low-carb vegetables. Keto friendly dippers like my parmesan crisp recipe would be great with it as well.
It’s also fantastic with anything you cook on the grill! The smoky flavor of the meat combined with the cool tang of this sauce is so delicious. Looking for a fun option for dinner? Very good especially when I don't have Greek Yogurt ❤
Candace
Such a great and easy recipe!
I always have sour cream on hand and rarely Greek yogurt so this recipe was exactly what I was looking for - and the flavour and texture are both wonderful.
Both myself and my husband thought this recipe was amazing!
I will definitely be making this again rather than buying store bought.
Cyndi
Love this recipe!!!

My husband says this is the best he has ever eaten!

This was perfect! I'm not a fan of yoghurt, so finding this sour cream version was just what I was hoping for. I served it with our chicken shawarma rice bowl. Thank you!

So tasty’. As I didn’t have green yogurt was happy to find this gem! And didn’t have fresh dill but used a half tbsp of dill weed

Made this as I had no Greek yogurt in the fridge. It tasted great! I would definitely recommend getting the excess water out of the cucumbers as suggested and making this recipe. Very easy and tasty.
Stephanie
Tastes great!
Arty
This is not Tzatziki; there's no dill and the key to the bit is fresh garlic. This is a dip for potato chips.
Lisa MarcAurele
It's more of a Tzatziki substitute that's keto-friendly.
TalkFood
Um. There’s dill in the recipe.
Darlene Young
There is 2 tablespoons of fresh dill in the recipe written above

I have so much zucchini right now so this is perfect! I love tzatziki so I'm going to put this on everything!
Raia
One of my favorite condiments! I love it on sandwiches, with veggies... by the spoonful... haha.
Yang
I love tzatziki sauce! So versatile and tasty to go with everything off the grill.
Anastasia Papapetros
Sorry honey but this is no way tzatziki and should not be referred to as such! Tzatziki is traditionally made with yoghurt NOT sour cream. This is a sour cream dip with dill and cucumber! As a Greek I am insulted that you would even consider giving it that title!
Lisa MarcAurele
The reason is because sour cream has less carbs than yogurt. But Greek yogurt can certainly be used for a traditional style.
Anastasia Papapetros
Oh honey, you completely missed my point. Regardless of the carbs the fact of the matter is that authentic tzatziki is made with GREEK YOGHURT and not with sour cream. This recipe should be called something more appropriate.
Lisa MarcAurele
I do get that and the recipe can still use Greek Yogurt for those who don't worry about carbs.
Steve
Get off your high horse
Gina
Then you picking the wrong battles LOL. There are a whole lot more things in the world to be insulted by than a recipe. It's delicious.
Jean Choi
I LOVE taztaziki sauce! Never would think to make it with sour cream but it's amazing.
BG
I am going to make with half sour cream and half greek yogurt,
