Are you a hot chocolate fan? It's one of my favorite things to drink when it's cold outside. I just love to settle down, wrapped in a big fluffy blanket, with a steaming cup of cocoa.
There are a lot of different types of hot cocoa that you can make, even on the keto diet. In fact, the only thing you need to make this low-carb is sugar-free chocolate.
If you thought you had to give up treats like hot chocolate because you are watching your carbs, think again!
Why you'll love it
Take everything you love about white chocolate and melt it down into a luxurious drink. That's what this recipe is! You will feel like you are indulging in a dessert from your childhood.
This isn't just a blast from your past, but it is super easy to make too. There are only two simple ingredients. You can make it with dairy or non-dairy milk, so it's easy to make it for any diet just like my dairy-free hot cocoa mix.
My recipe tells you how to make just one cup of white hot chocolate. You can make it on the stove (which is the best way) or in the microwave when you are in a rush.
This drink doesn't taste sugar-free at all! It's just as rich, creamy, and velvety as the sugar-laden kind they serve at restaurants.
Ingredients
There are only two simple ingredients in this keto white hot cocoa. Here's a bit more information about what I used in this drink.
Keto White Chocolate Chips
Use your favorite sugar-free white chocolate chips. I love the ones from ChocZero - they are perfectly sweet without any funky aftertaste.
As they melt, the ChocZero white chocolate chips are extra creamy. And they are sweet without being overly rich.
Almond Milk
I used almond milk because I prefer it over dairy. On the keto diet, you want to use unsweetened almond milk. If you use plain almond milk, I suggest adding a drop of vanilla extract.
It's easiest just to use unsweetened vanilla almond milk. It has the best flavor in hot white chocolate.
Salt
A dash of salt will enhance all the ingredients and bring out the natural sweetness in the white chocolate and the deep vanilla flavor in the almond milk.
Please note: Check out the recipe card at the bottom for a full list of ingredients used to make this low-carb recipe.
Quick tips
- Froth up the top! For a frothy top, you can use a milk frother to fluff up the hot white chocolate before or after pouring into a mug.
- When you melt the white chocolate chips, stir them constantly to avoid scorching the chocolate.
- To make it creamier and richer, use a little more chocolate chips or use heavy cream for one-fourth of the almond milk.
- Garnish with a cinnamon stick for a little extra fun.
Instructions
After you make this drink one time, you'll have the recipe memorized. It's pretty simple. It's as easy as melting the white chocolate and almond milk and then adding it to your favorite mug.
Melt The White Chocolate
Add the white chocolate chips and almond milk to a medium saucepan. Heat it up over medium-low heat, and stir it constantly until the white chocolate chips are completely melted.
Take your time with this step. Use a whisk to make sure it mixes together completely. Keep the heat at medium-low so that the chocolate melts slowly.
Pour Into A Mug
After the white hot chocolate mixture is completely melted, pour it into your favorite mug. It is ready for you to drink!
️ Serving suggestions
This is the best thing to drink when you are feeling cold and want something to warm you up from the inside out. I love to indulge in a cup of it as a late-night snack. Sometimes I serve the drink with hot chocolate stirrers to add more flavor.
In fact, I like to enjoy this with some of my other favorite keto desserts too. Keto cream cheese cookies have a lovely crunch, and the taste is light enough that it doesn't compete with the drink.
Or for a bit more spice, serve the cocoa with some gluten-free gingersnaps. I like to dunk them in the cocoa - it's like childhood all over again.
This is also the perfect thing to serve at a winter party. I love these keto black and white cookies. They are the perfect representation of hot white chocolate. Plus, they are super popular - everyone will love them!
