Ingredients needed
Here's everything that makes up my gluten-free cream of celery soup.
Chopped celery
The base of this recipe is, of course, raw celery!
Fresh celery is a great keto veggie for soup because of its low carb count and herbal flavor profile.
Garlic and onion
To make this soup extra fragrant and flavorful, I add chopped onion and minced garlic.
Low-carb broth
For stock, I like to use either chicken broth or vegetable broth in this soup. Both provide delicious results, so choose your favorite!
Heavy cream
This recipe calls for a cup of heavy cream. And boy, does this ingredient do some heavy lifting!
Not only does it make the broth extra creamy and decadent, but it also adds great fat content to your keto diet.
Butter
A bit of butter or olive oil adds even more fat content and flavor.
Seasoning
I use very simple seasonings to enhance this soup - just salt and pepper.
Optional garnishes
Chopped fresh parsley and grated parmesan cheese elevate this dish to new heights!
Soup tips
- To avoid overly salty soup, opt for low-sodium broth.
- Let your soup cool before blending to avoid splattering.
- Taste as you go, adjusting salt and pepper to suit your preferences.
- Use the optional garnishes for improved flavor and presentation.
How to make cream of celery soup
Here are the easy steps to making this creamy celery soup.
Step 1: Sauté the veggies
Start by melting your butter or heating the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Then, add all of your veggies to the heated fat, including celery, onion, and minced garlic.
This is going to give incredible flavor to the soup!
Keep sauteeing until your vegetables are tender and fragrant.
Step 2: Add broth and simmer
Next up, add your broth to the mix and let your ingredients simmer. You can use chicken stock, vegetable stock – whatever suits you!
You'll know you're ready for the next step when your celery is easily mashable.
Step 3: Blend smooth
Now, we're ready to blend!
Use an immersion blender to blend your soup until smooth. Alternatively, you could add the soup to a blender.
Just remember to be careful; splashing hot soup is not a good idea!
I recommend letting your soup cool down slightly before opting for the blender method.
Step 4: Add heavy cream
Add your blended soup back to the pot, stirring in the heavy cream.
Then, heat your soup through to allow the flavors to combine.
Step 5: Season and adjust
As you're cooking, season the soup with salt and pepper to taste, adjusting as you go. The amounts are totally up to your preferences.
Step 6: Serve hot!
And with that, your cream of celery soup is ready to serve!
While optional, I highly recommend serving hot with chopped fresh parsley and grated parmesan cheese for the best flavor combination possible.

Cream of celery soup variations

- Include a splash of lemon juice to finish your broth with a burst of acidity.
- Substitute heavy cream for coconut milk for a vegan version of this dish.
FAQs
These are the questions I get the most about my low-carb cream of celery soup. If I don't answer your question here, please leave it for me in the comments down below.
Making this cream of celery soup vegan is as easy as 1-2-3! In fact, it's practically already there.
Start by opting for vegetable broth over chicken broth and olive oil over butter. Alternatively, you could also use vegan butter.
Then, simply substitute heavy cream with coconut milk. I suggest using primarily coconut cream to achieve the same luxe, rich texture.
To do this, let a can of coconut milk sit upside down in your fridge overnight. When you open the can, the coconut cream will have solidified at the top for easy scooping!
While recipes will differ, most creamy celery soups taste mild and earthy, with peppery celery balanced by rich heavy cream. The savory broth may also taste slightly sweet with the addition of this cream.

For such a simple recipe, this was delicious. We topped ours with parmesan and it did not disappoint, absolutely delicious. The only thing I did differently is that 1 of the cups of celery was just the leafy toppers. I save those and this was the perfect use for them. Delicious! Thanks for sharing the recips.

This was a delicious soup! I added some chicken once the soup was nearly done and the suggested parmesan just before serving. The soup was amazing before the additions and even better after.
